Project Title: LEE AND LARA

Kanchi began making short super-8 films in 1992 and went on to graduate in 1997 with an HND in film and video. Her independent narrative short film Travelling Light (1999) came second for best film at the BBC British short film festival and was also nominated for a Bafta award for best short film. Her narrative short I Don't Exist premiered at the LLGFF 2004 and played at festivals worldwide. In 2000 she took part in the BBC/BFI Insight feature development and production scheme but in 2002 the scheme folded due to changes in film funding and the films were not made.

Her first feature Break My Fall (which she wrote, directed and produced)has played at festivals worldwide for the past year and was released theatrically in Germany and in the UK in 2011. It is now out on DVD in Germany, the UK, France and Italy and VOD in Taiwan and is represented by Paris-based sales agent Reel Suspects.

Kanchi has recently completed the Hothouse script development programme with her feature script Normal Love – an offbeat mother-daughter story set in a British seaside town.

Kanchi is currently working on a dark lesbian romcom provisionally entitled Lee and Lara and is producing a documentary in Istanbul with Israeli TV director Maya Neemani and photographer Amnon Friedman.
