Smita Bhide: Biography

Smita Bhide was born in Bombay and grew up in India and in England. In 2008 her debut feature film, micro-budget thriller "The Blue Tower" won Best UK Feature at London's Raindance Film Festival. Her short films have played festivals worldwide and include the award-winning "Cup & Lip" (2001) and most recently "Another Planet" which won India's top short film award, the Golden Lamptree, International Film Festival India 2011.

As a screenwriter, Smita has written and developed film and TV projects for BBC Films, Disney, FilmFour, C4 Drama, with some of the UK's highest profile directing and producing talents, including Kevin McDonald, Peter Kosminsky, the producers of "Calendar Girls" and "St. Trinian's". She also worked as a writer on the acclaimed European box-office hit, "Desert Flower".

She is currently a Writer/Associate Producer on HBO/BBC1's "Hunted", a new primetime thriller series created by "X-Files" show-runner Frank Spotnitz. Smita is also developing feature film and TV projects with Monkey In Heaven Films, which she co-owns with her producing partner, Jamie Nuttgens (C4's "Red Riding). "The Tantrik", a psychological thriller developed with Warp X/Film Four/UKFC, is in the early stages of financing, to shoot in India in Spring 2013.
