Alexandra Makarová: Biography
Alexandra Sofia Makarová was born in Košice, Slovakia in 1985. After the fall of the iron curtain she emigrated to Vienna with her mother, where she attended a Czech school for the first few years. As that turned out not to be the ideal place to learn German, she changed schools. How best to learn a new language? To watch a lot of movies and read a lot of books. Even if it's "The Silence of the Lambs" and a eight-year-old doesn't have much need for phrases like "I'll slit you open from head to toe you slut", the excessive watching of movies was the first step in the right direction.
Alexandra studied directing and scriptwriting at the filmcollege Vienna. Her short films were already shown at a few international film festivals, most recently in competition at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland and the Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis in Saarbrücken, Germany. Into the West is her first feature film script.
